Instead of spamming the boards everytime I see some cool news, I’ll post it here. I’ll also keep track of prospects I like, new signings to ufc/dwcs/Bellator/etc.

So Umar pulls out of the first fight against sandhagen, has not beaten a ranked opponent yet, now he gets a top 5 guy on his side of the world? It's a good fight but it's also pathetic how privileged Umar is

Let’s be honest tho, who else is going to sign up and fight him?

Ppl ranked in front of umar
Font - lol
Figgy - chasing higher ranked names or legends
Song - not taking that fight off of a loss
Cejudo - not fighting a prospect
Chito - doesn’t align with his return frame + got soundly beaten by Sean
Yan - viable option but chasing a title eliminator

That leaves Sandhagen (keep in mind he is THE ONLY guy who has called out umar and welcomed a fight) and merab who has a title shot locked up. Everyone *****ed and whined about umar not facing ranked opposition, and now that he gets a huge fight everyone complains about how he doesn’t deserve it. So I ask, who does he fight then? If it’s someone outside top 10, people will complain it’s an easy fight but if he fights someone ranked higher than him, people will say he doesn’t deserve it; there’s no winning with umar and his opponents. Hes 17-0 and has a massive hype train, I say give him Sandhagen and let’s see if he is legit or not

Sucks that it's Cory who takes the fight with the prospect but I can't complain since Cory vs. Umar is such a banger

The thing is, Umar doesn't deserve to be ranked higher than #14 or #13, even with just a big win streak because his only notable win is Barcelos, who was never close to being ranked. Whenever he was about to fight better opponents or was called out by better fighters, Umar always withdrew from fights. This "no one wants to fight me" talk is nonsense because, of course, no one wants to get booked to fight against a guy who is withdrawing from fights half of the time. As I remember, Jonathan Martinez was ready to fight him, but for some reason, Umar hasn't even responded to him and I think he would've been the perfect opponent for Umar in this situation, even after losing to Aldo.

Bro how could you deny Sandhagen a title fight if he beats Umar in Saudi Arabioa of all places. Crowd support aside just the travel across the world to a place where gingers die if they venture outdoors is a lot of challenge to stack on top of fighting a beast like Umar.

10-Kyler Phillips: Lost to a flyweight who isn't on the roster anymore. Also got popped. Beat a guy by decision (Barlos) that Umar starched with little effort.

11-Dominic Cruz: 12 weeks away from being completely de-ranked due to inactivity.

12-Jonathan Martinez: Best win is a robbery over Said.

13-Mario Bautista: Best win is Ricky Simon. Ranked right where he should be.

14-Ricky Simon: Wasn't even ranked like 2 weeks ago; is only back in the rankings because Aljo finally moved over to FW.

15-Pedro Munhoz: 3-6-0-1 in his last 10.

Who on this list should be ranked higher than Umar?

@saba I disagree with that logic. He would beat everyone ranked below him, using resume to justify ranking is pointless. Amir Albazi is #3 with 1 ranked win, B allen is #6 with 1 ranked win, fluffy is #11 with 0 ranked wins, ige is #13 with 1 ranked win, etc. you get ranked based on skill and winstreak not because of resume

Also a 5 fight winning streak at 135 is impressive regardless of resume. That divison is a shark tank

Umar jumped from #13 to #10 (and now is #9) for going to Decision against a debutant, in what many people refer to as the most competitive division in the promotion.  Not many people would benefit from such generosity.

I can agree with that, definitely an unnecessary jump, but like foppa said, should he really be ranked lower than he is now? I would favor him over everyone ranked below him

I can't really answer the question of whether he should be ranked lower because imo the rankings are inconsistent with how criteria is applied.  Just from observation over time.  By some criteria that is applied selectively, he's right where he should be.  By other criteria that is also applied selectively, he might be ranked differently.

I'm not someone who thinks the rankings are orchestrated by the UFC though.  With a little detective work you can find some of the names of the media people on the rankings panel, and you can read their opinions on MMA or listen to their podcasts to get the gist of how they analyze things.  From what I've seen and heard I think there's room for improvement.

See I don't even agree with that. I don't think it's an unnecessary jump. Saying he beat a debutant seriously underscores the effort. Almakhan is crazy good and has a very good chance of being ranked soon himself.

We were just in this same scenario with OMalley like 2 years ago. Everyone wanted him to be fighting certain competition and thought he was getting special treatment. Now O'Malley is the champ, has avenged his only loss and has wins over 2 former champions. Nobody that was making the argument before that he was getting special treatment denies how good he clearly is. Umar will be no different.

@foppa420

If it had been Mario Bautista instead that beat Almakhan by Decision, you think he's jumping 3 spots in the rankings?

I don't.  And if he did, some folks would be noting it as unusual.  Because it would be.

Almakhan is a good fighter but he hasn't done anything in the ufc so a win over him isnt worth moving up multiple spots in the rankings

People are so annoying it’s not rocket science the ufc will push guys they know have a big fan base and think can be a star this isn’t new suga Sean didn’t earn he’s shot at number 1 ranked petr Yan a different situation also is costa who hasn’t beat any current ufc fighters and keeps getting top 5 ranked guys losing to them all and now still getting the number 1 guy why because he’s a big name with a fan base umar is 28 now 17-0 it’s time just like it was with Sean to throw him to top guys not everyone needs to go threw 5 ranked guys before getting a title eliminator

Quemuel Ottoni will compete on dwcs this season. He is most well known for being the first man to beat poatan. Last I heard, he was signed to pfl but I guess they benched him and he waited out his contract. Not sure how good he actually is but very interesting dwcs signing

Nvm I guess pfl cut him after pulling out of the lazy king fight lol
